Megan Warkentin, "At the Mall", 5.5' x 8', oil and acrylic on canvas |
University of Alberta grad Warkentin describes her process:
"I begin by creating collages combining imagery to create ambiguous narratives. I then reinterpret them with paint on large canvases in a spontaneous and expressive way to create emotional and psychological impact.I do not think that these narratives should require a specific explanation of what is happening, but rather when looking at my works, I want the viewers to imagine their own narratives and meanings for the pieces."
"Coming of Age: The Graduates" is
a group show featuring the work of recent art school graduates. Ten
artists were selected from five Albertan communities: Edmonton, Calgary,
Red Deer, Grande Prairie, and Lethbridge. The show runs at the Visual
Arts Alberta Gallery until July 14. The gallery is open Wed-Fri from
10-4 pm and Sat from 12-4 pm. The gallery will be closed on June 30 for
Canada Day.
