Storytellers

Annora Brown, Brittany, Highlights, December 1951, Vol. 5, No. 3, 1951, linocut, watercolour on paper, Collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.
The exhibition Storytellers examines the telling of stories in visual art. With art works drawn from the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, this exhibition explores the actual narratives related by artists and the various ways they have been portrayed.

As one of Alberta's distinguished artists, Annora Brown (1899-1987) is also known as a writer, historian, and naturalist. She wrote numerous articles regarding the plants and life on the prairies and taught at the Banff School of Fine Arts.

Storytellers was curated by Shane Golby and organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program. The AFA Travelling Exhibition program is supported by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts.

Storytellers runs from July 25th until August 28th, 2013 at the Visual Arts Alberta Gallery. A reception is planned for Thursday, August 1 from 7-9:30 pm. Gallery hours are Wed-Fri 10-4pm and Sat 12-4pm. The Gallery will be closed on August 3.
