Vivian Lindoe, Untitled, n.d., oil on cardboard, Collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts |
The exhibition Storytellers examines the telling of stories in visual art. With art works drawn from the collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, this exhibition explores the actual narratives related by artists and the various ways they have been portrayed.
Vivian Lindoe was part of a young and vibrant art community in Calgary during the 1940's and '50's. Along with painting, working in clay and doing batik, she made tables and other practical objects during the most productive period of her art practice. She died in 2006.
The exhibition Storytellers was curated by Shane Golby and organized by the Art Gallery of Alberta for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program. The AFA Travelling Exhibition program is supported by the AlbertaFoundation for the Arts.
Storytellers runs from July 25th until August 28th, 2013 at the Visual Arts Alberta Gallery. A reception is planned for Thursday, August 1 from 7-9:30 pm. Gallery hours are Wed-Fri 10-4pm and Sat 12-4pm. The Gallery will be closed on August 3.
