Smith describes her work this way: "Horses are a part of the Alberta contemporary landscape in the smae way that clay and horses from an important social, historical, and esthetic connection.  ( I employ) gestural, quick decisive drawing in a wet, red clay for immediacy - like many contemporary artists. The liveliness of plein air, the topic, is an exploration of my relationship with horses in Alberta."

Spaller says: "I am an avid gardener and a lot of my work has nature, flowers and leaf components to it. I like to walk and observe nature in its different seasons. Spring for new leaves and the shapes and colour, summer colours and fall colours with differing sizes of leaves. Gowland says of her process: "My inspiration comes from the thought that while the province is made up of various features and components, it seems to rely on oil for support. Interesting to me is the combining of various components of the clay process, throwing, carving, handbuilding, and moldmaking (sprigs) to get the finished product."
